Climatic and environmental groups have drawn a road map that will ensure that the next world climate conference dubbed as Rio +20 does not fail as other climate meetings. Rio+ is to be held in May 2012.
As part of preparations for the Rio Conference, Durban will be hosting COP 17 at the end of this year. For the Durban meeting to be successful, Marcia Andrews of Peoples Dialogue of South Africa called for greater African participation in the preparatory events.
She told Flamme d’Afrique that the Dakar meeting was “a very important” because it brought together environmental and ecological issues. They discussed a common agenda and agreed on the need for a road map.
Marcia Andres said the meeting agreed to mobilize people from below to take the country processes forward to make sure all people know the importance of climate and ecological issues.
From Durban, COP17, the Committee preparing for Rio and the Committee that comes from Bolivia Cochabamba will co-ordinate their strategies for Rio+20.
