Centre for environment and development in Nigeria says Africa should realize that development is all about people. Centre representative Raymond Enoch said that people should be at the centre stage of development and planning and it is only in that context that Africa talks about sustainable development.
Mr.
Enoch said other than that, Africa will still be the same after Rio +20 summit. He said Africa should realize and know that the world is not waiting for them to start developing; he mentioned wars, uprisings and long serving presidents as things that are retarding Africa’s development.
Enoch, said Europe is moving towards sustainable cities and planning because their leaders know that people they lead matters to them not in Africa where leaders are imposing themselves on the people. He said at the moment, no country in Africa can boast of having a sustainable work plan to display.
He said the world is moving forward while Africa is on the standstill.
He said land grabbing for the so called developments shows that Africa is where the west wants to carry their experiments with their green economy; he said it is good to have big companies participating in agriculture but the point is that it is the small holder farmer who really puts food on the table.
He was speaking with flamme da Afrique at the Rio+20 centre in brazil.
