ZAMBIA’S EASTERN YOUTH CLIMATE CHANGE FORUM GEARED FOR RIO+ 20.

A youth organization in eastern province of Zambia says nothing will stop them from realizing the dream of sending a representative to Brazil for the RIO + 20 conference.

Eastern Youth Climate Change Forum’ coordinator Xavier Ng’ambilani, says matters of environment and climate change issues lays in the hands of well meaning young people.

Mr. N’gambilani stressed the need for young people to get involved and take the lead because if they don’t do that, they are the ones who’ll be hardest hit by the consequences of climate change and global warming.

“We are set for RIO +20 and we want our voices to be heard, this world is entirely in our own hands because if we don’t participate then we are doomed’’ says Ng’ambilani.

Mr. Ngambilani urged other youths to join hands in finding ways of mitigating and adaptation to the effects of climate change, he said that as the organization, they are targeting school going pupils to make sure that they grow up with that care for the environment.

He said for the past one month, the youth organization’s focus was on awareness creation through live phone in radio programs and getting views from people on what they should present at the Rio summit.

The organization is sending one representative who will join the umbrella body under which all organizations dealing with environmental issues affiliate to, the Zambia Climate Change Network ZCCN.

Ng’ambilani said as Kyoto still lays on life support, he hopes for the best out of the RIO + 20 summit. “We are hoping for the best this time and we will push hard for our views to heard because as at now we feel Kyoto lays on the life support” said Ng’ambilani.

He said as things stand, nothing will hinder them even if it meant going to Rio on foot to represent the needs of the young generation which he said is next to his heart.
