ZAMBIA CLIMATE CHANGE NETWORK SAD WITH LOW REPRESENTATION AT RIO+20 SUMMIT.

The Zambia Climate Change Network (ZCCN) the umbrella body of organizations dealing in environmental matters in Zambia said all is set for the Rio +20 despite having little representation from civil society organizations in Zambia.

ZCCN coordinator Eneya Maseko said he is not happy that the civil society organizations in Zambia will be represented by few individuals at the Rio +20 summit in Brazil. ‘’ this is a very important summit because it will look at issues of economic development, social development and environment” said Maseko.

He said it is important that as many African countries focus on job creation for the youths, it is important to allow many youths to attend such conferences. He said this summit needs a lot of participation possible from the business community, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, farming community and the youths.

Mr. Maseko hopes the African Leaders will present a consensus message and hopes that the leaders will recommit to the issues they made in 1992 like the green economy which is not clear until now.

Mr. Maseko said Zambia has packaged a story to tell the international community on what she has done.

He pointed out that if many civil society organizations were allowed to travel and present their papers, it would have been of great benefit to Zambia as they would have helped in wooing new investment in to Zambia.

The civil society in Zambia will be represented by Zambia Alliance of Women, Non Governmental Organization Coordinating Council and the Zambia environmental management.

The Zambian delegation will be led by His Excellence Micheal Chilufya Sata President of the Republic of Zambia who will deliver a report on the national position on environment and sustainable development.
